“Long story short” is ironically and senselessly just like his life was cut short as, visiting another country where a propaganda poster was hanging is something you (or I) probably would have taken down to take home as a souvenir, too.
Why should someone be arrested, kept, tortured and ultimately die, because of that?
Well unfortunately, peeling down a piece of poster board was a crime and his punishment far outweighed the crime: Being sentenced to prison for over a year and eventually being shipped home deaf and blind.
My heart goes out to his parents: Fred and Cindy Warmbier. I literally cannot imagine this.
All the mystery behind it is just too mysterious.
Not knowing (exactly) what happened is just too torturous.
The agony of not being able to talk to or hear from your child the entire time while in a foreign (enemy) country, jailed with no one [he] knows or around him: just too sad and sadistic.
As you will read (below) reports are stating “no torture” yet, he came home in a coma and in a vegetative state.
Well, what the literal hell happened? Because an otherwise healthy, virile, vibrant, smart kid attending University of Virginia simply visiting abroad made it back in one piece, but in pieces.
After listening to the interview and reading up on all that I had from my sources, it seems as though (without inflicting any OBVIOUS torture onto his body), some kind of torture happened.
Seeing as though his dad said his teeth looked as if his bottom teeth had been rearranged and his bottom right foot scarred, countless torture methods can be inferred with that, alone-not to mention [Otto] being returned in this condition making “howling, inhuman sounds” …that is COMPLETELY jarring and most probably a repeated, recurring and recorded sound that he made for the entire time year he was tortured-merely being replayed back as the ONLY form of communication he could muster from this vegetative state.
Perhaps during the emotional fight or flight response (that our human bodies go through in search of protection while trying to survive), at some point (in this obvious torturing), his body must have gone into shock and (perhaps) that’s why he returned deaf and blind. Psychosomatic?
The fact is, Otto may not have come home with a whipped physical body but (in my opinion-considering the details we have) he obviously suffered a very meticulous, extensive, concentrated form of torture in which his body and mind continued to try and fight and flee but lost the fight.
As I stated before, I live minutes from Otto and at first mention that he was “coming home” I totally fantasized that this summer he and his parents would be bombarded constant visitors and passersby stopping by for a hug offering sincere welcome home sentiments. That won’t happen. This is terribly sad and I will FOREVER be stunned and feel for his parents.
